About

The Asynchronous Learning Network is currently being developed as a part of a research project funded by the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation.

The project and is aimed at enhancing student education and improving the availability of courses and degree programs through distance learning environments. Educational programs include Internet Educational Systems (including live video and audio, Asynchronous Learning Networks communication forums, Demos and laboratory activities through multimedia and live demos).

The Laboratory is also involved in providing continuing education tutorials and short courses as well as other Distance Learning instruction instruments and programs. The Electromagnetics and Energy Research Laboratory at the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Florida International University is also involved in a variety of research and educational activities. Research activities are in the areas of intelligent systems applications, power systems analysis, electromagnetic field computational techniques and design optimization problems.
